Music-Abuse.com Website Representation

voice overs jobsMusic-Abuse.com takes its website marketing extremely serious. So it only benefits you to be a part of it! Website representation is only available to professional voice over talent who have their own studios.

We define professional voice talent as those who are available almost immediately 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday, have their own studio, are able to upload mp3 files to our website. It is seen as a plus if you have all of the required demos as you will be more bookable to us if you do have them.

One other requirement is that you have NOT signed away exclusivity to a talent agency. We do not require exclusivity to our company, but you must have completely open relationships with other agencies you work with in order to work with us. Simply put, we do not work through talent agencies to book talent or contract them on retainer.

Not all who apply for inclusion on this website will be accepted. We only add talent when holes for a specific language exist in our roster, or for whatever reason a talent does not renew, or we drop a talent. Music-Abuse.com takes great pride in only offering the most professional, dependable, and talented voice over talent in the industry.

If you'd like your demo to be reviewed for possible inclusion, please forward the following separate demos Mp3 to demos@music-abuse.com:

* Commercial (Required)
* Narration (Required)
* TV Promo (a plus)
* Radio Imaging (a plus)
* Characterizations (a plus)

You will be provided with an FTP if you can't email them because of length. Please read our Terms&Condition before to apple.

Who hasn't fancied the chance of being involved
in TV or film voice over work?

One of the biggest misconceptions about voice over acting is what we like to call "the myth of the Golden Voice". Having a good sounding voice is one thing, but knowing how to use it correctly is another. A “golden voice” is absolutely not essential when pursuing your future in voice over acting. Another common fallacy associated with a career in voice over acting is that a lack of a background in professional acting can harm your chances for a future. Not true! While some acting ability is a helpful and marketable talent to have, it is absolutely not a deal breaker.

If you've had no formal training or industry experience, then it can be worth trying it out before spending too much time and money on something that won't work. Several companies offer free consultations, without obligation, to help you decide.

The Showreel offer FREE consultation as the first step in identifying a marketplace compatible with your voice. It is designed to establish your vocal qualities and abilities in order to successfully plan your showreel, and maximise your chances of selling your voice to a suitable audience. These qualities are critical in determining the type of voice-work you may eventually be booked for, and directly influence material chosen for your showreel. The consultation does not commit you in any way to book a Showreel.

Learning Voiceover Skills

royalty free jinglesBefore getting into the business of voiceovers you have to determine what you are good at. Is it commercials, narrations, imaging or characterizations? These are the four main categories of voiceovers. Each of these categories, branch off into almost an infinite amount of sub categories.

For example, tv spots, documentaries, animation and on hold messaging just to name a few.

Find the one category you are good at and work at it first. On a daily basis, listen to that particular category of voiceovers whether it's on tv, radio or some other form of media. Also read books on the subject and work with a coach. This takes time, so be patient. For individuals already in the media (radio and tv personnel) wanting to make that transition into the wonderful world of voiceovers, you've got a jump on the others, but your work is definitely not done. Read on through and we're sure you've missed some steps. Below are links to recommended reading:

What if you have never worked in radio or television – does that prevent your future in voice over acting from happening? Absolutely not! Every voice over actor has to start somewhere. Those voice over actors with names you recognize started out with no experience, the same as you are. Experience is something you have to go out and create for yourself; it is not an insurmountable obstacle. It is a simple hurdle that every aspiring voice over actor must jump at some point to get their career off the ground.

Acting experience is something you can pursue over time to enhance your current ability to read a script, be expressive with your voice, and make your success as a voice over actor soar.

Do you live in a small town or a rural area? Are you afraid that voice over acting will require you to relocate to a larger city, or to a major entertainment hub city such as Milan, New York or Paris? That is patently untrue because voice over acting is a career you can build right from your own home, wherever that may be. A rural or small town location can be easily overcome with the advent of modern technology, allowing you to set up a home studio, record your voice and market your self, all without having to leave the comfort of your own backyard.

Building Your Own Studio

Once you've educated yourself on your particular category, it's time to set aside a location and collect the gear necessary for your studio. Your studio can be in a closet, or a small spare bedroom. The smaller the better. We've even heard of people putting sheds in the middle of their living room and yes it works! At the very least, you will need a mic, a preamp (if your mic doesn't have it's own power), a computer, a simple audio editing program, an exceptional quality sound card, a CD burner, and an mp3 conversion program. Now remember this is just a start. Below are some books on acoustical design as well as software and websites where you'll get great service on gear and more advanced software.

Making Your Demo Rock

Your demo is "the" most important piece of your business. It not only is a sample of your work, it's your calling card. Do not take your demo for granted. If you can't produce an excellent demo yourself, make sure you hire someone to give you the best. And make sure that someone has done voiceover demos before. First test the waters, record some pieces of copy and send them to a coach or someone heavily entrenched in the industry. If they don't have a rate for this, offer them €25, so they take you seriously when you send them stuff.

Music-Abuse.com puts together many voice talent demos. Click here for more information on demos by Music-Abuse.com.

How To Market Yourself

Now this is the REAL trick! This is what separates the regular talented individuals from the professionals. And unfortunately, this does not come free. You are either going to have to educate yourself on how to market and advertise in the voice over world and pay a pretty good dollar amount to get yourself noticed or click here and find out how to get your voice over marketing plan started. Remember there are no quick fixes to anything, and it takes time to build a reputation and name for yourself.

Closing the Deal/Representation

This is your final hur-rah! If you are not a very good business person or you only want to concentrate on your talents rather than the business aspect, you will need an agent or a manager. Most of the big talent agencies will not take your phone call until you are well established. That means you are already grossing €50-€100,000 worth of talent fees a year from your voiceover work. Some smaller professional talent agencies and production companies look for sheer talent and how available you are. And it's important to note that the unprofessional agencies and companies are even less demanding but they don't pay very well and they will take advantage of you if you let them.
